Successive Program Directors

        In this age with the widespread use of the Internet, e-learning has been a trend. Since 2006, the Ministry of Education has allowed universities to set up e-learning in-service master's degree programs that are provided for people with full-time employment to take online classes of higher education and earn a master's degree. The E-learning in-service master's degree Programs that are set up by each university can vary in different professional fields with unique characteristics including digital publishing and archives, communication and information, multimedia and network communication, professional development for in-service teachers, accounting information, and laws.

        The "Master Program of Professional Development for In-service Teachers of the National Chung Cheng University" was jointly planned and organized for establishment by, the Director of E-Learning Center of our university Professor YU, PAO-TA and the 5th Dean of Education College Professor HU, MENG-CHING; on May 30, 2006, this program was submitted to the Ministry of Education as the trial additional enrollment; and in the same year on October 13, this program was certified and approved by the Ministry of Education and has started the 1st enrollment of graduate students since the 2006 school year. The Dean of College of Education Professor HU, MENG-CHING served as an adjunct Program Director of the e-learning master program. Afterward, the 6th Dean of College of Education Professor LIN, MING-DIH, the 7th Dean of College of Education Professor TSAI, CHING-TIEN, the 8th Dean of College of Education Professor LEE, FENG-JIHU, and the current Dean of College of Education have served as the successive program directors.

Philosophy and Mission

        The Master’s Program in Professional Development for In-service Teachers of National Chung Cheng University (hereinafter referred to as this program) is dedicated to the philosophy and mission that aims to help the elementary and junior high school teachers overcome the barriers of time and space for taking further learning courses through the considerate information and technological auxiliary learning platform offered by the university to promote their professional abilities of education and teaching efficiency; particularly, for the teachers in the experimental education organizations located in the remote areas without the convenience of transportation. They are provided with the opportunities for developing their professional teaching ability. In terms of the core concept, this program takes "continuous education" and "professional education development" as the basis of the course design and the teaching implementation with the practical integration that focuses on "creative teaching," "the best use of information technology" and "effective application of professional knowledge of education" for the aims of boosting the continuous and progressive development of those experienced elementary and junior high school teachers in the aspect of professional knowledge of education, attitude, ability and quality as well as enhancing their professional standards.

        With social progress and development in Taiwan, the challenges that the current elementary and junior high school teachers are dealing with are in multifaceted aspects including the social expectations of teacher's education degree and the parents who are paying more attention to students' rights in learning; also, the objects that teachers provide them with services, teaching, and interaction are no longer limited to the students in elementary and junior high schools but ranging from adult students in the continuation school of the elementary and junior high schools, the vast number of people who study in the extension programs conducted by the schools and communities to the increasing number of parents of the new generation in Taiwan. Therefore, the design of the curriculum and courses of the master's degree program with the concerns of such aforementioned background is initiated from the perspectives of innovative teaching, application of information technology and lifelong learning. It's hoped that through the high-quality curriculum and courses offered by the master's degree program, the vision and the educational perspectives of the elementary and high school teachers can be upgraded to cultivate their professional knowledge of teaching in a more comprehensive approach.

Mission and Objectives

        1. Cultivating the elementary and junior high school teachers in their professional knowledge of life-long learning and teaching abilities;

        2. Strengthening the abilities of the elementary and junior high school teachers in performing creative teaching and science education;

        3. Encouraging the elementary and junior high school teachers in their professional development through continuing education;

        4. Maximizing the comprehensive professional knowledge of the elementary and junior high school teachers with multiple perspectives.
